Last Meeting

For the May meeting we decided to do something different. Rather than having a conventional meeting with a speaker, we thought that it might be fun to go on a small field trip to visit the Baton Rouge Zoo. We met a bit earlier than usual at the Cytek Museum, where our regular meeting would have taken place. To make sure that all current members were aware of the plan, we sent out numerous e-mail via the LGCHS list server and called most of the current members, which paid off rather well. The turnout was good, and our small group of about 15 people - and some additional members that met us there - went on its way.

We had picked a beautiful day for this field trip, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the comfortable stroll through the zoo. The Baton Rogue Zoo is a private facility, and was surprisingly spacious. They had some neat animals, including one particularly gigantic Gopher tortoise that closely resembled a small hill. Most of their reptiles however, were in one building that houses the aquariums also. Their aquarium displays were very nice, and our only complaint was the lack of legless creatures, as merely a handful of local snake species were displayed. A filling, yet nutritionally rather questionable lunch with all the members completed the fun event.
