Susan Mule' and her daughter Elizabeth presented the wonderful world of Tarantulas and how to care for them.  Those present actually got to witness a pair of tarantulas mating.

A focus group was formed within the LGCHS at the July general membership meeting for those interested in tarantulas and other invertebrates.  The group will be referred to as the "Invertebrate Connection" and will be identified by a logo on the right sleeve of our Society shirts.  Any questions may be directed to Susan Mule',  Jay Vincent,  or Rodney Oliveri.   They may be reached at info@lgchs.org.

Cera Oliveri won the door prize which was a book on reptile diseases and a small telescoping snake hook.

The Northshore Reptile Show in Slidell on July 24 & 25 was a lot of fun this year.   It always features local breeders with quality captive-bred animals.  Eric,  Jason,  and Rusty are to be commended for the excellent job of promoting it.  Jay Vincent donated almost a hundred curly haired spiderlings that were given away for donations to the projector fund,   as a new member bonus,  and as a membership renewal bonus.  They were enthusiastically received!  We are looking forward to the next show in Slidell on October 9 & 10.  These dates are a change from the dates in September.

Society Polo Shirts are available with your name embroidered under the logo over the left pocket for $15.   If you want the Tarantula logo on the sleeve it is an extra $3.  If you bring it back later for the logo it is $6.  It is $8 if you want a logo put on a shirt or whatever that you already have.  Contact Bill Watts at info@lgchs.org or call 504-710-8456.  We also have some hats with the Snapper logo available for $15.

Have you renewed your fishing license yet?  This is required if you to collect or keep native Louisiana reptiles.

Do you have a protocol for your reptiles and amphibians for the hurricane season?  What do you plan to do with them?  You may want to be sure that you have enough bags and plastic containers to put them in for travel during an evacuation.  Make sure that you plan ahead for travel destination,  transportation,  food,  water,  medicine,  living quarters and other special needs for your reptiles and amphibians.  Don't wait until the last minute.

The Florida press reported that a 22-year-old shot his 21-year-old brother in the foot.  He was trying to shoot a rattlesnake with a .22 pistol but missed and hit is brother.  The snake got away.

If you have a suggestion for a club activity please Email it to Thomas Eimermacher.

Answer to last month's question "which President kept an alligator in his bathtub?"  It was Andrew Jackson.  A French diplomat presented the alligator to him.  The gator was kept in the bathtub until the diplomat departed from Washington DC. The gator then mysteriously disappeared.
