This bulletin is to serve as our monthly news letter.  A link will be emailed to members early each month as a meeting reminder.  The bulletin will also present reminders for other happenings scheduled for the near future. Paper copies will be sent to members without email.  If you have a suggestion for this bulletin please bring it to the next meeting or email it to the webmaster.

We encourage all members to attend the October events,  especially Snakes n'Things on Oct. 23.  This is our annual show and tell at the Rivertown Museums in Kenner.  This year, weather permitting,  we will be out in the Museum lawn area where many festivities are held during the year. Tents and plenty of shade will be available.  We would like a good turnout of our members to support this important event.  This is your chance to help educate the public about the wonderful world of reptiles,  amphibians and invertebrates.  For RSVP, email info@lgchs.org and let us know if you can participate and what you are bringing.

Have you renewed your fishing license yet?  This is required if you to collect or keep native Louisiana reptiles.

Thanks to Tony Berrios and his huge Varanus albigularis and his 13 foot Burmese for helping the LGCHS and the St.Bernard Animal Shelter raise much needed funds.  These reptiles were in demand for photos for the two days at the annual Friends of the St.Bernard Animal Shelter Reptile Show.

Kudos to One World Business Exchange for donating the sign that will help direct people to Reptile Shows in this area.

From the Legislative Committee:
PLEASE make sure that your reptile is in an escape proof habitat,  especially if you have large reptiles.  An escaped reptile makes for a sensational story that is usually exaggerated by the media.  These escapades fuel the public's clambering for more stringent reptile regulations.  We have been fortunate in dealing with the state legislature on reptile issues so far.  But reptiles that escape and scare the public do not bode well for the future of our favorite pastime.  We most certainly will be fighting for your right to keep reptiles during the next legislative session.   ~Bill~

Society Polo Shirts are available with your name embroidered under the logo over the left pocket for $15.   If you want the Tarantula logo on the sleeve it is an extra $3.  If you bring it back later for the logo it is $6.  It is $8 if you want a logo put on a shirt or whatever that you already have.  Contact Bill Watts at info@lgchs.org or call 504-710-8456.  We also have some hats with the Snapper logo available for $15.
