From the Legislative Committee:
For the first time in three years we have had no activity in the Louisiana State Legislature concerning the regulation of
reptiles.
The Restricted Snake regulations will go into effect this September. There is no charge for permits and applications will
be accepted sometime after September 1. The LGCHS will alert its members and provide information when the LDWF will solicit
and accept permit requests.
All fishing licenses will expire at the end of June regardless of when they are obtained. All Louisiana residents that keep
native or indigenous species are required to maintain a current basic fishing license that can be bought at most sporting goods
stores and sections of mass retailers. Please don’t forget to renew yours.
If you are aware of any pending local, regional, state or national legislation efforts of reptile related issues,
please contact a member of the LGCHS Legislation Committee: Bill Watts,
Fred Mattingly, Thomas Eimermacher,
Mike Beebe or Theron Magers.
Education:
LGCHS members Jaque Mayeaux, Mike Teifer and Bill Watts presented an education seminar on reptiles, amphibians and
tarantulas to summer campers at the LA-SPCA on June 9. The emphasis was on the venomous snakes of Louisiana and how to
identify them and avoid snakebite. The reception was enthusiastic when other live animals were presented and then examined
by the campers.
If anyone is available for educational outreach projects, please contact Lonnie Senior.
The Northshore Reptile Show will be the last weekend in July, the 25th and 26th. It will be in a new and larger air

The Louisiana Herpetological Research Group will meet this year at the LUMCOM facility in Cocodrie Louisiana on November 4,

this meeting is to provide an informal atmosphere in which undergraduates and graduate students, faculty, and all others
interested in herpetology can present 10 minute papers, exchange information, and get to know each other.
