From the Legislative Committee:

Because of the efforts of Members,  Advisors and Friends of The LGCHS,  HB738 did not complete its journey through the Louisiana Legislature in 2006.  After some discussion with Senator Art Lentini,  he chose not to present the bill in the Senate because the LDWF said that the bill wasn’t needed and the fact that the bill could have an effect on Louisiana’s multi-million dollar reptile industry.  The LGCHS Legislative Committee commends you and thanks you for your efforts.  Every contact, phone call and email was important.

If you are aware of any pending local,  regional,  state or national legislation efforts of reptile related issues,   please contact a member of the LGCHS Legislation Committee:   Bill Watts,   Fred Mattingly,  Thomas Eimermacher,   Mike Beebe or Theron Magers.

Education:

On July 16 Bill Watts and Fred Mattingly did a program for the Louisiana SPCA Care Cadet Camp.  This presentation was about boa constrictors,  tuataras and chameleons.

Contact Fred Mattingly if you know of any educational opportunities.
