June Meeting

June 12 - Audubon Zoo - 7:00PM SHARP

The June meeting will be held at the Audubon Zoo on Monday, June 12 at 7:00PM sharp.  It will be a family affair so bring your spouse & children for a behind the scenes tour of the Audubon Zoo Reptile House!  We will meet at the Tea Room on the left side of the zoo instead of the Nims Conference Room.  You need to be there a few minutes early so that you won’t be left behind.   The tour guide will be Dino Ferri,  the Curator of Reptiles at the zoo.  We wish to thank Dan Maloney,  the General Curator for setting up this tour and allowing the LGCHS the use of the facilities.

Last Meeting

The May meeting was the annual Kisatche field trip. About 20 of our members participated and had a great time.

From the Legislative Committee:

The Legislative Committee wishes to thank all of the LGCHS Members and Friends who contacted members of the Louisiana State Legislature via telephone, email and USPS to express their opposition to HB783,  and especially those that showed up for the Senate Natural Resource Committee Meeting in Baton Rouge on May 25.  We also want to acknowledge and thank Marshall Meyers,  Executive VP and General Counsel for PIJAC,  for his efforts in contacting their members to get them involved . There were about 20 people present in Baton Rouge because of the combined efforts of The LGCHS and PIJAC.  We must always be diligent in staying informed about pending legislative regulations about reptiles as well as local issues.

If you are aware of any pending local,  regional,  state or national legislation efforts of reptile related issues,   please contact a member of the LGCHS Legislation Committee:   Bill Watts,   Fred Mattingly,  Thomas Eimermacher,   Mike Beebe or Theron Magers.

There will be a rodent buying CO-OP forming at the June meeting which will work as follows.  If you are intrested in purchasing frozen rodents this is a great opportunity to save on the expensive costs of shipping.  Any active LGCHS member may participate by doing the following.  Go to www.rodentpro.com and pick out what you wish to order.  We will not be splitting bags, their minimum per bag will be the minimum amount you can order (for example they offer frozen mouse pinkies per bags of 100, you must buy 1 bag and not 10 pinkies).   Once you have decided what you wish to order email Eric Marquette with the subjuect rodent order,  include the sizes and quantity you wish to order.  Once I recieve everyone's order I will email you with your price including your portion of shipping.  All emails MUST be recieved no later than Wednesday June 7,  2006.  Orders must be pre-paid to Eric Marquette in cash at the June 12th meeting at which time you will be given a receipt for your payment.  The order will be placed and will be available for pick up at the July meeting.  If you are unable to pick up your order please email me and let me know so arrangements can be made for you to pick your order up or have it held until the next meeting (I can not deliver the order to you).  I regularly order from RodentPro and they have unbeatable prices and a large selection of sizes of mice,  rats,  rabbits,  guinea pigs and chicks,   they often have specials on certain animals and discounts on orders of over 500 of each type of animal which will be passed on to everyone that has ordered that specific type of animal.  They also offer a shipping calculator to ensure everyone is paying only for their portion of the shipping.  If there are any questions regarding this please email me.  Remember this is one of the many benefits to being a member of the LGCHS.  Please make sure you have your orders in by the deadline above and your money available at the June meeting.   We will be doing this twice per year to start with the next scheduled order to be in November and arrive in December so please order accordingly.  We will make more frequent orders should their be demand for it.

Eric Marquette
